THE leader of the Uganda Muslim Tabliq Community, Amir Daula Sulaiman Kakeeto, has said the Domestic Relations Bill conflicts with the teachings of Islam.

He asked Parliament to consider the Muslim community when discussing the Bill.

“Parliament should be cautious so that the Muslim Community is not marginalised when the Bill is passed,” Kakeeto said in his Idd El-Fitr message yesterday.

He said Muslims had looked at the Bill and found many contradictions with Islam.

“Islam gives us (men) freedom to marry more than one wife. It does not also confer on us to make consultation for marrying another woman, yet the Bill is not considering all these provisions by our religion,” Kakeeto said.

He added that the teachings of Allah were superior to any man made law.

“Muslims will find no alternative but to oppose the Act when it becomes law. We shall have to disobey it if it’s passed in its present form,” Kakeeto said.
