SIR— I wish to say a thing or two about the article “Gallantry lost†by Lillian Barenzi which appeared in the Sunday Vision on November 16. I am not against displaying etiquette or chivalry, but if someone has not offered you a seat, Ms Barenzi, may be they saw you were not worth it! Perhaps the men in church were too engrossed in grasping God’s word or in the case of opening doors, men are often preoccupied by what matters like beating deadlines and earn a decent living! For my wife, friend or a lady, yes, I would offer a seat, open the door, etc. But I cannot allow myself to be distracted from a sermon by a late coming, fancily clad girl trying to pass off as a suffering woman to be pitied. And if she is half the woman she says she is, trust me one of those men in church would have stood up to give her a seat. He/she who exudes honour gets. Women who get their thrill from bashing and belittling men end up disappointed in life with unfulfilled expectations. They cry for emancipation, equal rights, blah blah, while screaming for special favours and preferential treatment just because they are female. And when you call them the weaker sex (because they can’t stand through a one-hour service when late, alone lift a chair with ease!), they are all up in arms, calling you a chauvinist, philistine, boor!
