KAMPALA Boxing Club and KCC made a late charge yesterday that left the national novice boxing championship race on the wire at Lugogo.

The two teams pulled two victories to join Kololo High School and Namirembe on top of the table with eight points late into the quarterfinals yesterday.

COBAP and Motoyoshi are in second place with seven points each. The week-long tournament has attracted 161 boxers from 26 clubs.

Results: Light - J. Odhiambo (Police) bt S. Byekwaso (COBAP) Rd2, J. Lukwago (Kawempe) bt D. Ntabanjwa (Mubende) 3-0, F. Ngubo (KBC) bt S. Tebazalwa (Scorpion) 2-1.
Welter - B. Kiwanuka (Citizen) bt J. Butiimba (Namirembe), J. Lutakome (Motoyoshi) bt E. Nyeko (Roots) 3-0, C. Mulindwa (KBC) bt S. Muwonge (KCC) 2-1.
Middleweight - W. Kabanda (Masaka) bt K. Sakku (Kawempe) Rd2, I. Lubingo (Hoima) bt M. Luyima (Mengo), P. Kayongo (Citizen) bt I. Kaggwa (Roots) 2-1.
