A Sebei prominent leader, Salim Bilal Matui II, has banned female genital mutilation ahead of cultural festivities aimed at restoring the kingdom’s peace and security shattered by cattle rustlers over the past years.

He said this at stakeholders’ awareness meeting for traditional leaders at Kapsukunyo Primary School in Kawowo sub-county, Kapchorwa.

Matui asked all traditional leaders to enforce the ban as households prepare for initiation ceremonies.

He asked families with candidates to suspend all ceremonies during this period to allow the area address security concerns.
