“Kora was established to recognise the growing African musical talent to promote up-and-coming artists, and to unite the African diaspora through music and art,” wrote Ernest Coovi Adjovi, the Kora chairman and executive producer in an E-mail to The New Vision.

Adjovi says this year’s nominees are a testament to the rich cultural heritage and the exciting talent that Africa has.

“We are excited to have such international performers as Angie Stone, Ludacris and Koffi Olomide share in the celebration of music of the African diaspora,” he adds.

The event promises to be spectacular with some of South Africa’s top production and design companies lending their talents to the production.

Michael Gill Designs, who design the stages for such events as Miss South Africa and Miss World, now turn their talents to the Kora awards, while ThreeWay TV has been commissioned to produce the event.

The event will be open to the public. Tables for the banquet expected to seat 1,500 people are still available for booking through the Kora office by calling (011) 884 8420.
