Man fined

NAKAWA Court Chief Magistrate Margaret Mafabi recently sentenced a man to a fine of sh50,000 or six months imprisonment for failing to keep his driver’s driving permit.

Ismail Bashir, 36, of Mengo, Kampala was convicted after he pleaded guilty of failing to keep records of his driver.
Bashir commited the offence last month.

Pupils advise

Pupils of Namirembe Primary School in Bakulu, Kampala have urged the youth to abstain from sex before marriage to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS.

They were at a recent World AIDS Day drama competition organised by the German Technical Co-operation and Immanuel Children’s Development Centre at Nsambya.

Safety drive

The Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers' Association (UTODA) has launched a one-month road-safety campaign to reduce the number of accidents on the road.

UTODA chairman John Ndyomugenyi said the exercise starting this month, would comprise inspection of vehicles, workshops on good driving skills and passenger-driver-conductor relations.

Family dead

A family of three died on the spot when their vehicle lost control and plunged into Nabajjuzi swamp, 15km along the Nyendo-Ssembabule Road in Masaka recently.

Four other people sustained injuries and were taken to Villa Maria Hospital.

The district traffic officer, Patrick Mugisha, attributed the accident to speeding.

Sex case

MUKONO Grade II Magistrate Najjuuko Mutebi has committed a man to the High Court to face defilement charges.

Abdullah Mayanja, 20, of Mbiko Kyabagwa zone, Njeru allegedly defiled a 16-year-old girl.

Prosecution alleges that the accused committed the offence in May, at Butikula village in Mukono district.
