UNSEEDED Godfrey Uzunga registered the biggest upset yesterday morning at the Great Lakes tennis championships at Lugogo tennis club, beating sixth seed Patrick Olobo.

Uzunga, 23, used deep baseline shots to tear down Olobo in a game that was characterised by long rallies. Olobo, 18, was leading 3-2 in the first set, but blew the lead after committing several unforced errors that allowed Uzunga to take command and win the set 6-4.

“It was a really tough game and he is always a tough opponent to meet,” Uzunga said of Olobo.

“I tried to confuse him while he was driving me close to the net. I am happy that I will be playing my first challenger who is not a Ugandan.”

In the women’s semi-finals Evelyn Otula from Kenya dismissed Edith Wamalwa 7-5,6-1 while Rosette Musoke stopped Janet Khaemba of Kenya 6-3, 6-2 to book her place in the final set for today.
