BACK-to-back title winning Falcons aim to use this weekend’s Abraham Lincoln international basketball tournament as a step to dominate the East Africn scene as well.
Falcons are on a high after successfully defending their FUBA Classic league championship against Rhinos in the best of five final.
The 3-day international tournament kicks off this afternoon at the YMCA and has attracted over thirty teams.
The popular Abe Linc tournament played under floodlights, is set to conclude the 2003 season in style. The draws for the event to have senior, junior men and women’s competitions, will be held today at the College Inn Wandegeya, according to official Ronnie Kalule .
Falcons became the second Ugandan team to win the Abe Linc title in 1999 after hosts and annual organisers Charging Rhinos had lifted it during the tournament’s fifth edition in 1997. Mombasa Combined has on the other hand won the title for the last two years and will be vying to lift it for the third year this time round.
Women’s defending champions Amazon Rhino have a task against league champions MUK-Sparks before fending off Kenyan resistance.
Knight Riders hope to retain their junior trophy even though they are pitted against current second division champions Kololo Bush Court in a tricky test.
