THE Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recently clashed with a group of the LRA rebels at Akisim northeast of Kaberamaido district headquarters.
UPDF 3rd division spokesman 2nd Lt. David Mbiire said the army managed to rescue a 15-year-old girl the rebels had abducted earlier in the day from Amuogo village.
“It was the first contact we have had with the rebels after a long time. They were about 10 rebels and we killed one,” Mbiire said.
He said the army also charged the area and recovered several weapons including one grenade, four magazines with rounds of ammunition and one anti-personnel mine.
He said the rebels in the region had dropped from an estimated number of 50 to splinters units of about five rebels.
Mbiire said it were these that had continued to terrorise people.
He said the most affected parts were Kakure and Otuboi in Kaberamaido district, Aparisa in Tubur sub-county, Soroti district and Kapelebyong county in Katakwi district.
Meanwhile, 24 pastoralists were recently killed in a clash between the the bokora and Pian Karimojongs at Lotirir and Lopei villages in Moroto district.
District Internal Security Officer Richard Oseku said at least 1,052 head of cattle and 300 goats were lost during the clash.
Oseku said 17 pastoralists were injured.
