FUFA vice president (technical) John Semanobe yesterday insisted Uganda Kobs coaching two-some of Charles Namakola and Jackson Mayanja would continue managing the U-23 team despite calls for change.

The two coaches, appointed early this year, are yet to register a single point in two of their Athens Olympics football tournament fixtures following loses at home to Angola and away to Ethiopia.

Semanobe dismissed suggestions that the two are about to be sacked after results that have seen Kobs trail their Africa group C standings.

“We are 100% convinced that Namakola and Mayanja are the right people to take us forward. Both talk clearly and honestly and we believe they are the men to mould the team,” said Semanobe.

“They started the campaign and should be given that benefit of doubt to end it and hopefully in style. People should not look for a quick fix. Both have our backing and it is not for us to tell them how to go about things,” he added.

Kobs play group favourites Morocco at home on January 3, a fixture that should revive their chances. “People learn from mistakes. They learn when they go through tough times”.

The team was expected home yesterday from from Addis Ababa.
