RWAMPARA MP Amon Muzoora has said his constituents want a referendum on the lifting of the presidential term limits.

Muzoora made the call at a farewell party organised for former 1st deputy Premier and Rwampara MP Eriya Kategaya at Nyeihanga in Mbarara district on Tuesday.

Speaking to the New Vision yesterday, Muzoora said his constituents still support the Movement and have called for reconciliation between President Yoweri Museveni and Kategaya.

“The matter should be subjected to a referendum so that the public can determine what is good for them,” said Muzoora.

Muzoora said Rwampara elders were seeking audience with the president to discuss the growing rift between him and Kategaya. “It would be good for the people of Rwampara to hear that Kategaya, Winnie Byanyima and Miria Matembe and others have gone back to discuss with the president the matter,” Muzoora said.

Muzoora said the LC3 chairman Nyeihanga, Jomo Mugabi, asked Kategaya to reconcile with Museveni.

Kategaya is opposed to the lifting of the restriction which critics say will give Museveni an unlimited number of terms in office after his second term expires in 2006.

Kategaya says Museveni should honour his 2001 re-election promise to hand over power peacefully.
