KAMPALA City Council (KCC) has secured about sh2b from the Government to build pavements, the town clerk James Sseggane said yesterday.

Sseggane told The New Vision at City Hall that President Yoweri Museveni met KCC officials on December 24 and directed them to clear the city of dust by repairing foothpaths.

He said the sh2b has been disbursed through the Local Government Development Programme (LGDP).

Sseggane said KCC was looking for a firm to reconstruct the shop verandas/pavements, walkways and road shoulders.

He said the council had suspended the repairs due to lack of funds.

Sseggane said shop owners would be required to repair their verandas according to KCC standards.

“KCC will set the standards of the pavements. We need to work with shop owners and utility companies that dig up our roads. Fighting dust is a joint responsibility,” he said.

Sseggane said Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited and National Water and Sewerage Corporation, who usually dig up rodads, do not repair them afterwards.
