FORMER Karaoke star and KADS Band member Qute Kaye stepped into the limelight in 2006 with his debut album Ginkeese but disappeared off the scene.

Now, Selulungi, as he is called, is back on the scene with a new album, New Agenda. “I want my new album to speak out and let everyone know that good music is not only about performing at concerts but about fusing Rock, Soul, Jazz and RnB into Afrobeat to make a world class tune,” he says.

And that is what Kaye has been up to of late. His latest album Nyumirwa Obulamu comprises 12 sizzling songs done to a medley of Afrobeat, RnB, Rock, Soul and jazz fusions. The title track is getting a lot of airplay on local FM radio stations.

In Nyumirwa Obulamu, Kaye talks about a new-found love who has brightened his outlook on life. The song packs a groovy bassline, danceable hooks and exhilarating vocals that match the feel-good vibes.

On the reverse, Ogenda Wa is more sorrowful. The song tells of the pain of a man whose bride leaves him.

If there is one word that can be used to describe Qute Kaye’s renaissance it is ‘Fusion’. Nyumirwa Obulamu was put together by top notch producers including Vincent of No End Entertainment, Don Balamu Alan Okia and Rockamilley.

The album also features collaborations with Ragga Dee, Rockamilley, Rachael Kiwanuka and Halima Namakula. With this fusion album, done in English, Swahili and Luganda, we can only expect that fate will smile on Kaye’s efforts.
