THE Mufti, Sheikh Ramathan Mubajje, has called for the sacking of the district kadhis and imams who side with the rebel Muslim faction.

“Any district Kadhi and Imam who have joined the rebel group should be expelled, do not allow them to hold those offices,” he said.

Mubajje was speaking during the wedding of Ishmael Kateregga and Hadijja Nanono at Rubanda village Kissekka sub-county, Masaka district on Sunday.

Over 500 Muslim sheikhs and personalities on Thursday convened what they described as ‘Sharia court’ which convicted Mubajje over allegedly disposing of Muslim property under his custody fraudulently.

The self-appointed court chaired by Uganda’s ambassador to Iran, Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Kisuule, condemned Mubajje and banished him from entering any Mosque in the world.

However, Mubajje who was guarded by armed men at the ceremony, said he was going to tour the country to denounce the rebel group and their allies.

Mubajje thanked the Muslim leaders who refused to attend the rebel faction meeting at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
“I have received the attendance list of the participants at the Hotel Africana forum and they were only 14 legitimate sheikhs, not 500 as earlier stated,” he said.

Mubajje said that the majority of the sheikhs, district kadhis and imams who were invited to attend the rebel meeting boycotted.

“I am glad that the rebel group met at Africana. Now we know our real enemies because they have openly exposed themselves and we are going to deal with them,” he said.

Mubajje said he will not accept the rebel group to drag the Muslim community into the past mess. He said the conference was unconstitutional.

“If you want to air out any problem in our faith, we have channels and procedures which are constitutional. It is not just a matter of ganging up in hotels to make decisions,” he said.
Mubajje said his administration will not tolerate those who want to use short-cuts to take over power.

The Mufti noted that some of the officials behind the Hotel Africana meeting are fraudsters who were earlier suspended for swindling money.

Commenting about the married couple, Mubajje advised parents to encourage their children to engage in early marriages as a key strategy of fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge.

The Masaka district Kadhi, Sheikh Huzairu Kiruta, assured Mubajje of his support.
