FUFA yesterday sacked its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles Masembe for abuse of office. The former FIFA referee has been on suspension since October as a probe committee investigated his conduct.

FUFA yesterday sacked its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charles Masembe for abuse of office.
The former FIFA referee has been on suspension since October as a probe committee investigated his conduct.
FUFA publicist Rogers Mulindwa announced the executive decision during a press conference held at the soccer governing body’s headquarters in Mengo.
“It was a difficult decision but we have expelled Masembe in the interest of football. He acted without due consultation. His act therefore grossly embarrassed FUFA,†Mulindwa explained.
Masembe was dismissed after the committee headed by FUFA vice president in charge of competitions, Col Jackson Tushabe handed in its report.
The former CEO’s fate was sealed after a FUFA executive meeting held in Kampala on Wednesday.
The meeting deliberated on the Tushabe’s report and other issues.
Masembe paid the price for recommending one Eddie Migadde for a British visa. Masembe fronted Migadde as a referee whereas he is not.
Migadde has since vanished. Masembe assumed office as the first FUFA CEO in 2006.
But his tenure was characterised by controversies including last year’s radio comments in which he misinterpreted the FIFA 2010 World and Nations Cup qualifier rules and stated that Uganda had qualified for the next stage of the events.
At the same time, FUFA delegate for Mbale Zubair Galiwango, the federation’s finance committee member Joseph Kakooza and women football official Paul Ssali face disciplinary action over charges of sabotage.
Their fate will be decided tomorrow after a meeting of the disciplinary committee headed Canon Nsamba Bukenya.
Galiwango was banned from the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup semifinals and the final game for attacking a female official of the tournament sponsors GTV.
