DEFENDING champions Uganda telecom Kobs kick-start their campaign for a fourth consecutive rugby league title with a trip to Jinja where they will take on minnows Nile.
Newly appointed Kobs coaches Ronnie Kaddu and Geoffrey Mabonga, out on their first outing, should be able to register a high scoring win that the champions registered over the Jinja side last season.
Kobs new captain Timothy Mudoola was upbeat after a training session at Kampala Club.
“We are ready for the league. We will do what we do best,†Mudoola remarked.
In the Kyadondo derby, MTN Heathens face a rejuvenated Toyota Buffaloes hoping to pick up a bonus point.
Heathens, who have strengthened their squad with the inclusion of Daniel Mugambi from G4S Pirates and Bonny Morrow formerly with Rhinos, are expected to give dominant Kobs a stiff challenge this season.
Heathens will have to do without influential veterans Robert Seguya, who is busy with women’s sevens team and Brian Tabaruka still on honey-moon.
At Kampala Club, Pirates under new coach Brian Makalama hosts Hima Impis while Rhinos face Entebbe Mongers in what is regarded as the only match-up of the weekend.
