Leopards brace for tough battle
- Uganda’s KCC Leopards, the East, Central and South African Inter Cities basketball women defending champions, will have their might in the region put to test when this year’s edition tips off in the Tanzanian City of Arusha on March 23. The Kampala side will have to face new challengers from the southern region. Teams from Johannesburg and Lusaka will take part in the event for the first time.

Draughts body changes name
- The local draughts body, formerly the Uganda Amateurs Draughts Association, will now be called Uganda Draughts Federation. “It was agreed +by the members that we drop ‘amateur’,” chairman-elect Hudson Kyagaba said. Members who turned up for the annual general meeting at the YMCA Wandegeya last Sunday confirmed the decision. The meeting also doubled as an elective assembly.

Kiprop, Toroitich for Puerto Rico
- Eastern Africa half marathon champion Isaac Kiprop and runner-up Martin Toroitich left for America yesterday, where they will compete in the Puerto Rico San Blass Half marathon on Sunday. It is the third time Uganda is sending athletes to the annual event. Toroitich is the best Ugandan performer after finishing third in the event in 2007.
