The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs is studying the recent Supreme Court ruling on the death sentence to decide on the way forward, the state minister, Fred Ruhindi, has said. The court on January 21 refused to outlaw the death penalty, but said the death warrant should be executed within three years of confirmation of sentence. It ruled that if this is not the case, the sentence would be commuted to life imprisonment.

MUK delays transcripts
- KAMPALA
Makerere University has postponed the issuing of academic transcripts to the 12,346 students who recently graduated. In a January 28 notice by the academic registrar, the graduates have been advised to wait for an unspecified time to allow for the embossment of new symbols into the transcripts.
