How did Katuramu get to know the murderous hoodlums?

EDITOR—On February 4, The New Vision published a letter entitled “Rukidi was too harsh on Katuramu”. The anonymous writer says he or she was “extremely disappointed” by the language I used to “deprecate, discredit and disparage” the former Omuhikirwa of Toro, John Katuramu.

He was referring to a letter I had written entitled, “Are Batooro waiting for Gadaffi?” He argued that belittling those who have “worked hard to build our culture and kingdom when times were not propitious by overlooking the good things....shows how “ungrateful, forgetful and unforgiving” people can be.

Please give that crap to somebody else! I would like to assure Mr or Ms ‘Name Withheld’ that he or she is reading from a different script.

How could a person concerned with “building our culture and kingdom” turn around and murder the first grandson of Omukama George Rukidi III? What does ‘building culture’ mean to the writer?

Is murdering people in cold blood part of Toro culture? I called Katuramu a thug and I repeat it because things or people should be called by their real names. Perhaps if I knew who had written that letter, it would have shed a lot of light on the matter.

Yes, Katuramu built a temporary palace for Toro and started Voice of Toro in the kingdom but so what? What we need to get clear is what his motive was.

The British built railways and roads in Africa but it was not out of love for Africans. The British Empire came first. Katuramu was a shrewd businessman who held a VIP passport which he put to excellent use, courtesy of his position as Toro’s Omuhikirwa.

Prince Charles Kiijanangoma was murdered on March 23, 1999, two days before he was supposed to appear in court in a case intimately related to the affairs of Toro Kingdom, against Katuramu.

Those who think Katuramu loved Toro because he built a temporary palace, did this and that should ask insiders like Princess Elizabeth Bagaya what they knew about him.

I see no point continuing with the debate but the writer who thinks Batooro are ungrateful for calling Katuramu a thug should look up the meaning of the word. It means a violent person, especially a criminal. Katuramu fits both descriptions like a glove.

Those who saw Kiijanangoma’s bullet-riddled body can testify to that. If Katuramu was a decent person, how did he get to be associated with the hoodlums who killed Kiijanangoma, Stephen Kaganda and grievously injured Phelly Babara?

He certainly was a thug.
Tell me your friends and I will tell you who you are! Toro must be very careful about who assumes office in the kingdom. Not all that glitters is gold!
