Bishop Elijah Ssemugabi has been charged with criminal trespass with intent to annoy the owner of the All Saints’ College School in Mukono district.

Ssemugabi, the bishop of the Christian Fellowship Cathedral in Nsambya, Kampala, claimed to have bought the school.

He was charged on Thursday before Mukono Grade One Magistrate James Kalimaani.

Court heard that on January 27, Ssemugabi illegally took over 200 secondary school students to study at the school at Lukojo village in Nama sub-county.

The owner of the school, James Lugwire, denied having sold it to him prompting his arrest.

Prosecutor Prisca Bonabana objected to Ssemugabi’s bail application because he still had cases to answer at Buganda Road Court in Kampala.

Although Kalimaani accepted to grant Ssemugabi bail, his sureties did not show up by the time the case was heard.

“The case is adjourned to February 19, 2009 and on that day you come with your sureties early enough,” Kalimaani told Ssemugabi.

The Bishop astonished people at court when he shouted at journalists accusing them of having defamed him by writing negative stories about him.

Police recently said they were investigating Ssemugabi over allegations of child trafficking.

The Police is also investigating him over several other allegations, ranging from fraudulently obtaining money, uttering false documents to operating unlicensed schools.

In March 2007, Ssemugabi was accused of soliciting sh120,000 from parents, saying he would get sponsorship for their children.

Ssemugabi is said to own several schools within the central region. They include Munyonyo Bishop Elijah High School, Kabalagala Bishop Elijah High School, Kyengera Alpha and Omega, Bishop Elijah High School Bombo, Nansana Day and Boarding Bishop Elijah High School and Mukono Bishop Elijah High School.
