The Police and other security officers have impounded over 35 boda-boda suspected to have been used in criminal acts like theft and murder. The officer-in-charge of Kyenjojo Police Station, Vincent Ikwe, said the operation, which kicked off last Saturday, followed a public outcry that people hired boda boda cyclists to kill and rob them.
The thieves also reportedly rob boda-boda cyclists and sell their motorcycles in upcountry districts like Kabarole, Kibaale and Kasese. Ikwe called on people whose motorcycles were stolen to report to the Police with relevant documents like registration cards to pick their cycles. The exercise has paralysed business activities in Kyenjojo town, leading to an increase in transport fares. Ikwe rubbished off claims that the operation was meant to punish cyclists.
