THE outgoing Bishop of the Rwenzori Church of Uganda Diocese, Benezeri Kisembo, has warned his successor, Rev. Can. Patrick Kyaligonza, of members who want to grab land belonging to the church.

He said the diocese had received letters from christians of St. John’s Cathedral in Kabarole who had interests in taking over prime plots of land in Fort Portal municipality.

Kisembo said: “I want to assure the people who want to steal the church land that it does not belong to anyone here other than the church as an institution, not even the Bishop.”

“Such land has to be protected against individual interests,” Kisembo added.

He declined to mention the location of the disputed land but disclosed that the people who wanted to grab it gave the excuse of having occupied the land for a long time.

Kisembo was on Sunday bidding farewell to christians of St. John’s Cathedral in Kabarole.

He headed the Diocese that covers Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Bundibugyo and Kamwenge districts for ten years.

Kisembo thanked the christians who stood by his side during his reign.

The Rev. Can. Kyaligonza will be consecrated new bishop of the diocese next Sunday in Fort Portal.
Bishop Emeritus Baharagate of Hoima also attended the service.
