LOCAL musicians, Shana Sessanga and Dr Propa among many others, recently ventured into acting. Their new film, Isaza King of the Earth has received a lot of acclaim and they have been short-listed to showcase at the African Film Festival in the US later this year.

The film tells of how the mythical King Isaza met his demise when he was imprisoned by the underworld king, Nyamiyonga.

According to the legend, 10,000 years later, the immortal King Isaza has never been set free. Day after day he keeps groping about in the dark for an exit, shaking everything and causing earthquakes.

In this movie however, David Kateregga strives to tell all the shocking details of why the great king had to meet his doom in that way and what became of his throne thereafter.

Nyamiyonga (Ras Mali), king of the underworld sets out to make friends with Isaza (Sam Mali), the king of the earth.

Friendship was such a big deal and once it was agreed upon, the two parties had to seal their special relationship by eating coffee berries smeared with each other’s blood

Isaza, however, lied to Nyamiyonga and instead offered him a coffee berry that was smeared with a gatekeeper’s (Ragga Ben)’s blood.

Then, the underworld king and his wife Maya (Sera Shana) hatch a secret plot to punish Isaza for deceit and how Nyamata, the underworld princess seduces Isaza until she lures him to the underworld jail.

Amidst all this savagery, one cannot help but see the raw and unpretentious nature of our forefathers shining through.

The film was shot in Hoima, the caves of Fort Portal, Kooki and Kidepo National Park.
