MUKAMA Sadat Nkuutu, 13, a former pupil of Greenhill Academy, says he was born a king.

His father Elias Nkuutu says Mukama was born on August 10, 1995 with two handfuls of millet seeds, two umbilical tubes and four nipples. His grandfather Shaban Nkuutu was a royal in Busoga. Mukama sees himself as the king of Busoga though he insists he is not the Kyabazinga (title of Busoga cultural leader). Rehema Aanyu spoke to him.

Who is Mukama Sadat Nkuutu?
I was born to Mukama Elias Nyende Nkuutu and Annet Kalembe. I am the third born in a family of five. The late Honorable Shaban Nkuutu was my grandfather.

What makes you think you were born a king?

I was born with all the credentials of a King. I was born with two umbilical tubes, handfuls of millet seeds and on the day the late Henry Wako Muloki was buried, God, the Supreme being in a dream affirmed what he had destined me for. I am the 8th generation of kings in Busoga. I know for sure that I am a ruler protégé.

Tell us about your dream
In my dream, it was a Monday morning. I was at school before 6:00am doing my morning class work. When it was approaching 7:00am, we (P.7 pupils) were called for the morning assembly.

The whole class wondered because we normally never attended assembly. Headmaster said that a superior being was looking for a child from the family of the late Honorable Shaban Nkuutu.

I was not that attentive but I heard kids telling the headteacher to try the secondary section. Then I asked a friend what the HM was inquiring about. I realised they had been talking about me so I raised my hand.

He called me to his office after 30 minutes to meet this person who turned out to be the Omukama of Bunyoro, Solomon Gafabusa Iguru.

He asked me for my names. I told him that I was Mukama Sadat Nkuutu. He said my name tells it all. After a while, he said that I am the one after the Kyabazinga. I woke up thereafter.

Who did you tell about your dream?
I told my parents about the dream after a week. I was scared. My dad said he would go to Busoga and consult the elders.

What did the elders tell your dad?
The elders asked me to visit Kagulu hill, a historical place in Busoga where the chosen Kyabazinga is enthroned. I was scared at first because my cousin had told me that if indeed I was not born a King, I would not return. I visited these hills on January 9 as a prince.

What sacrifices did you make at the hills?
A cow, three goats and three hens were slaughtered as sacrifices to the ancestors.

What do you think of the late Kyabazinga?
I never met him, but used to see him in the newspapers. I respected him.

What will you do as the King of Busoga?
I will work hand in hand with the chiefdom leaders to build hospitals, schools and industries. This will create jobs for my people.

Who will be your advisors?
Apart from my reagents, I will seek advice from the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Do you have a palace?
My dad built me one out of reeds in 2001 but it was eaten up by termites. My next palace will be built in Nakibembe where my great grandfather’s palace existed.

Tell us about your robe and crown.
My robe is made of backcloth. It was designed by my dad in 2005. It has six beaded stars in front and a rainbow at the back. My crown too has small beads around it.

Do you wear this attire everyday?
No. At cultural functions like visiting cultural sites like Kagulu hills.

Your hobbies?
Playing video games and watching soccer.

Favorite dish?
Rice and chicken.

What would you want to be in future?
I want to be a pilot.
