WALLET TALK

Of what value is a man to a home, if he cannot do the simplest of things like moving a couch or fix broken furniture? You don’t have to do these things for the sheer display of manhood (that’s macho stuff) but because they can help you save some change.

Painting your house

Yes, it is as easy as the guy you paid to do it the last time, made it seem. How much did you spend? Think about what you could have done with that money.

Mowing your compound

Mowing helps you achieve two things simultaneously; saving and exercising. So let go of that office demeanor on the weekend and make yourself useful. Wifey is in the kitchen doing her thing, so should you. If it’s a huge compound, trim what you can and then pay (lazy bones) someone to mow the rest.

Gardening

No one is asking you to engage in full time gardening as a career but occasionally sifting through the strip of flower gardens doesn’t require you to amass the special skills and 20-year experience of a professional.

Sewing

Surely, why should you run around town looking for a tailor to fix your button?

Fixing electronics

Sometimes it’s something as small as a disjointed wire. Look at it before scurrying off to the electrician like your seven-year-old son would.

Wash the car

Depending on where you take your car, you are probably spending over sh20,000 every week. How hard can one be on himself? Spare some time and clean the basic areas.
