NGO aids 80 orphans
LIRA-A total of 80 orphans whose parents were killed by the LRA and other disadvantaged children, have got sponsorship from World Emergency Relief. The UK based organisation also distributes relief food, clothes and drills boreholes in war-ravaged countries. The students will study at Almond College for their O’level. The headmaster, Benedict Odongo, advised the beneficiaries to focus on education.

Children get 40 bicycles
APAC-Save the Children in Uganda has donated 40 bicycles worth sh4m to the child protection committee in Bala and Alito sub-counties. Handing over the donation to the LC5 chief, Nicholas Opio Bunga on Friday, the deputy country director, Peter Nkhonjera, said Save the Children was building cooperation and coordination to address the plight of children.

Farmers form body
GULU-Farmers in Acholi sub region have formed the Acholi Commercial Farmers Union to embrace all commercial farmers in region. The union was formed during a two-day workshop at the district chambers of commerce. The workshop was attended by over 100 commercial farmers from Gulu, Kitgum, Pader and Amuru districts. Eng. Noah Opwonya was elected chairman. “We expect the union to link banks, tractor suppliers and seed distributors,” he said.

‘Fight HIV in church’
APAC-Church leaders have been encouraged to create awareness about HIV/AIDS. Northern Uganda Malaria, AIDS and Tuberculosis coordinator Martin Odipo said the church’s silence and stigmatising attitude caused people with HIV/AIDS to suffer. “Encourage your flock to share information about HIV/AIDS and its impact on the community,” Odipo said.
