FORUM for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Kizza Besigye has re-appointed Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu as the secretary general for organisation and mobilisation.

Muntu, who was also appointed on the committee for discipline, contested against Besigye in the party leadership elections at Namboole stadium last month.

Besigye said the new appointments were part of the exercise to fill the 53 vacant posts that had not been handled during the delegates’ conference, adding that they were approved by the party’s national executive committee.

The posts included those of secretaries, their deputies and standing committees.

Besigye was addressing journalists at the weekly press briefing in Najjanankumbi yesterday.

The Rubaga North MP, Beti Kamya, who resigned as FDC envoy last year, was not named in the new line-up.

“We do not expect anyone to complain about any appointment. People should trust and work together with their leaders to achieve the party objectives,” he said.

Besigye said the delegates’ conference entrusted him as the party leader to appoint members to the vacant posts.

Wafula Oguutu was re-appointed as the secretary for information and publicity with Toterebuka Bamwenda as his deputy.

Other members appointed are Mukalazi Kibuka as the secretary for international affairs, Wandera Ogalo for legal affairs and Wilberforce Kyambadde for economic and investment affairs.

Christopher Kibazanga was appointed as the secretary for the president’s office, Abdu Kantuntu for local government, Nabila Naggayi Ssempala for ethics and culture and Justine Jjuuko for sports.

Betty Aol is the internal affairs secretary, Beatrice Anywar for environment, Maj. John Kazoora for defence, Alex Okot for education and James Mwandha for disability.

Party envoys are Chapa Karuhanga for inter-party cooperation, Reagan Okumu for campaigns, Sam Akaki for UK, Joseph Kakinda for South Africa and Munini Mulera for Canada.

“Many people might not be happy with the reappointments of some people, but I think they are worth their positions,” Besigye said, adding that the appointments would take immediate effect.

He said some women posts were not filled because the party had not identified the appropriate persons.

Commenting on the Owino fire, Besigye criticised the Government for failing to support the traders.

“How can the President pledge only sh1b to 25,000 traders. This shows no respect. Every trader will get sh40,000 and I wonder what it can do,” he said.
