FOREIGN affairs minister Sam Kuteesa has called on Ugandan heads of missions abroad to embrace the ‘politics of oil’ as Uganda joins the oil producing countries.

Kuteesa also urged the envoys to project to the outside world Uganda’s potential in oil production.

“This tour should be a contribution towards opening your minds to oil politics. We all look forward to the time when the taps will open,” he said.

The envoys who are on a one-week retreat in Kampala, toured the oil producing sites in Hoima, to acquaint themselves with the oil prospects in the country.

The annual retreat, under the theme “Repositioning the Ministry for the 21st Century”, opened last week at the Ridar Hotel in Seeta, Mukono district. The conference then shifted to the ministry headquarters.

The envoys were sensitised on new policies in the strategic investment plan, acquisition and management of properties abroad and human resource management.

Recently, international affairs state minister Okello Oryem said the ambassadors would shift from ceremonial work to commercial activities.
