I want to get rid of tattoo on my arm

A tattoo is an artificial mark or writing on the skin. It is done by injecting a paint (pigment) into the skin. A permanent tattoo does not rub off or wash off. It may fade slowly over time.

Dear Doctor,
I got a tattoo on my arm when I was younger. Now I want to remove it. How can I do that?

Dear Alex,>
A tattoo is an artificial mark or writing on the skin. It is done by injecting a paint (pigment) into the skin. A permanent tattoo does not rub off or wash off. It may fade slowly over time.

If tattooing is done in dirty conditions, one can get HIV and Hepatitis B from the tattoo needles.

Removing a tattoo is harder than making it. A skin doctor (dermatologist) may help. It may also be removed with surgery.

Your tattoo may not be that significant: You can ignore it. Removing it may be expensive but do so if it will make you happy.
