Renowned poet and writer, Ayeta Anne Wangusa has been selected to the Civil Society Advisory Committee (CSA) of the CommonWealth Foundation. She will serve as a representative for the East African region.

Renowned poet and writer, Ayeta Anne Wangusa has been selected to the Civil Society Advisory Committee (CSA) of the CommonWealth Foundation. She will serve as a representative for the East African region.

The committee contributes to the development and implementation of the Foundation’s programme. It is broadly representative of the different regions of the Commonwealth and different sectors and constituencies of civil society, and maintains a balanced gender profile.

Ayeta has seven years’ experience working with the media in Uganda. She is currently working with SNV-the Netherlands Development Organisation in Tanzania as Civil Society Strengthening Advisor for civil society networks and media organisations at district and regional level.

She is a published novelist and was judge for the prestigious Commonwealth Writers Prize (African Region), 2003.

“My role is to support them engage in service delivery at district level and policy advocacy at national level for the water sector,” Wangusa said. She has keen interest in strengthening the collaboration between civil society organisations and the media to play their role in governance.

As a writer, journalist and now Advisor, she has come to appreciate the role of communication in the design and delivery of effective development initiatives.

She was born in Uganda, currently lives in Tanzania and is married to a Kenyan.
