FIFTY days after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the death penalty, the Prisons authorities are uncertain of what steps to take against some of the death row inmates currently under their care.

Whereas there are those who have appealed against their sentences and are waiting to be heard by the Supreme Court, there are those who have exhausted all their appeals.

The Prisons department has now written to the Attorney General seeking legal advice.

There are 699 inmates on death row. Of these, 359 are men and 40 women.
