IT is out of American Idol that Kelly Clarkson was carved. She won the very first American Idol title when the singing contest was launched in 2002.
Then in the blink of an eye, Clarkson was catapulted onto a pedestal, with her first three albums selling 9.5 million copies in the US alone and winning her two Grammy awards.

Rubben Studdard, winner of the second season of the show in 2003, has released three studio albums. Famous for the hit Sorry 2004 and Change Me, Studdard’s fourth album is expected in May, yet he recently signed up for a big role as Fats Waller in Ain’t Misbehavin’, a legendary Broadway musical.

The other respective winners include Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, R&B singer/songwriter Jordin Sparks of the No Air fame and lastly, David Cook, who won Season Seven last year.

With all the winners doing well in their trade, American Idol has been associated with success, the reason it is one of the most sought-after reality TV shows.

Now the show’s enthusiasts can witness the making of yet another music heavy weight in the on-going eighth season, screening on DStv’s series channel, M-Net Series, every Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:00pm.

And, of course, back with the show is judge Simon Cowell, whose remarks to the contestants make Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul unnoticed as judges.
