Please do something about the traffic jam at Crested Towers

EDITOR—I am a frequent motorist on Hannington Road behind Crested Towers.

One surprising thing on that road is that motorists seeking services at the Stanbic Bank Corporate Branch block the road to other motorists at will!

I took time off to talk to the guarding personnel of Blue Hackle, a guards company that oversees the concerns over the building, including checking entering vehicles.

They referred me to Knight Frank. I asked to be educated about the procedure of car entry and exit. This, I did after observing the procedure for 20 minutes.

Shockingly, this is what I observed:
lThe motorist approaches the entrance gate and is checked by the guards
lThe motorist then moves a few metres in front to join the already existing queue of cars waiting for parking space to be created by a leaving bank client at the parking lot.

lIt is not until there is a car that has left the parking lot that another car leave the queue to take up the vacant parking space. Can you imagine what would happen in the middle of the road if all motoring clients spent 30 minutes in the bank!

This makes a snake of waiting vehicles from both Ruth Towers and Shimoni Road block the whole road.

In the meantime, never mind, the jam created for other road users is twice as bad as that at Jinja Road roundabout during rush hours.

Even when a motorist has 20 minutes to beat the 4:00pm bank closing time or use the road to reach his other destination, this self-created jam cannot allow it. Does Stanbic want to be corporate that way? This is what I suggest:

lThere is one entry gate and two exit ones. One exit gate is just next to the entry gate. So, vehicles that do not find ready parking should be guided to move out of the gate and park elsewhere in town and walk to the bank. There is nothing wrong with that.

lStanbic could rent the outside parking area along the road from Multiplex for their valued customers rather than disturb the other motoring public.

lDeploy Police to study and guide traffic at this particular place like they do with other congested places.

lOther options could be sought to avert the menace.
