Three people have died of burns sustained from the explosion of paraffin lamps, popularly known as tadooba, in Butaleja district, while two others sustained serious injuries.
The explosions are suspected to have resulted from paraffin mixed with petrol, which was reportedly sold at several trading centres in the district.
Deborah Amunot, a psychiatric nurse at Busolwe Hospital, said Gimbo Gambisyo from Mazimasa sub-county died shortly after arrival at the hospital.
She said Gambisyo also lost a one-month old baby girl in the inferno that engulfed her grass-thatched hut.
Amunot added that Madinah Gamosi from Butaleja sub-county died shortly after being discharged from hospital.
Lukia Namujehe from Mazimasa sub-county is nursing severe burns at the hospital, Amunot said.
She added that Janet Guloba from Budumba sub-county, who sustained burns, was recently discharged from the hospital.
