THE three Pakistanis accused of murdering two Indians were on Wednesday charged with murder and remanded to Luzira prison. Naveed Ahmed, 28, Mutaffar Hassan, 30 and Ahmed Fahad, 25, were charged before Makindye Court Grade One Magistrate Maxensia Namagembe.
They were not allowed to plead to the charges because murder is a capital offense only triable by the High Court. Under the Penal Code, any person found guilty of the offence is liable to death.
“I don’t have jurisdiction over this case. My duty is only to read the charges and remand you,†Namagembe told the accused. The trio allegedly murdered Gurbax Singh and his son Balijit Singh at their home in Bunga, a city suburb, on March 14.
Gurbax Singh, 58, was an engineer and the proprietor of MK Construction Company. Prosecution said the suspects were regular visitors at Gurbax Sigh’s home. On the fateful day, the Police said, the suspects visited the deceased’s home and turned against him at about mid-night.
They allegedly tied his hands behind his back and hit him with a hammer until he died. They allegedly killed his son the same way. Namagembe said the case comes up for mention on April 16.
