DOMESTIC football’s league title race took a remarkable twist yesterday, with two potential title candidates KCC FC and SC Villa dropping crucial points in Lira and Mbarara respectively.

On the evidence of KCC’s goalless draw against relegation-threatened Youfra, the league champions are turning out to be a one-man team.

Striker Brian Umony, who had scored in every game for club and country since January, finally froze and so did the rest of his side.

Club coach George Nsimbe (right) will not be particularly pleased that his side has twice not been able to steer clear of closest challengers Villa, who needed a second half Andrew Nkurunungi equaliser to overrule Ezra Mujasi’s 37th minute lead for the home side.

Uganda’s continental representatives, who engage South African side SuperSport next weekend, had earlier fought to a 1-1 draw against Simba on Monday.

In the other game yesterday, Bunamwaya, collapsed to a humiliating 2-1 defeat against Bugerere at Nakivubo.

Moses Lutwama came off the bench to inspire Bugerere after Tony Odur had given the home side a 63rd minute lead. Ayub Balyejusa equalised on 71 minutes.

  • URA cannot afford to lose against Police today if they are to keep table leaders KCC within touching distance.

  • Notably missing for the tax collectors will be injured national goalkeeper Abbey Dhaira and suspended Patrick Ochan.

The cops are also staggering with injuries.
