I am in S.5 and studying physics, chemistry mathematics/ entrepreneurship (PCM/E).
WHAT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES DO I HAVE? I am in S.5 and studying physics, chemistry mathematics/ entrepreneurship (PCM/E).
What career opportunities are there with this subject combination? Which local universities offer training in this field?
PCM is a science combination which, if you passed well (the minimum pass rate is two principle passes but this is not enough for admission to some universities) could lead you to various courses at university.
It depends on what you want to pursue in future. With PCM, you would qualify for a number of science courses such as: civil and building, electrical and mechanical engineering.
You could also pursue a bachelor of science (mathematics, physics, chemistry) degree.
This is a non-professional course and therefore does not equip you with many practical skills. It, however, offers a good background in a number of science-related professions.
The bachelor of science in education (physics, chemistry, mathematics) is another professional option. This prepares you to become a teacher of any of those subjects.
You also qualify for computer science professions and these vary depending on your interests and capabilities.
Makerere University is one of the leading institutions in science teaching at undergraduate level. It offers both theoretical and vocational sciences).
Kyambogo University is also good for sciences; especially the practical applications as well as Information and Computer Technology disciplines.
Other universities include Ndejje and Busitema.
Bugema University and Mutesa I Royal University also offer some of these courses but only at diploma level.
Other universities also offer sciences (bachelor of science, bachelor of science with education and computer science) but do not have vocational science courses like engineering related to your combination.
Entrepreneurship is a different field that prepares you for a career in business. Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Bugema University, Mountains of the Moon University and Uganda Christian University Mukono are good places to look.
In the unlikely event that you drop the sciences, visit MUBS and other universities to find out more about the course. Good Luck.
