SEVENTEEN-YEAR old Aisha Namboozo and Jackson Migadde were the biggest winners at the four-day NSSF Open international table tennis championships that ended on Sunday at Lugogo stadium.

They walked away with sh1m each while the runners-up got sh0.5m in cash.

Namboozo won an emotional final against her younger sister Amina Namaganda 11-9 11-7 11-9 with the loser sinking to the floor and weeping.

“It has been a great four days for me here and to end this way is so fabulous. My young sister has always tormented me on the table and I am glad I have ended her dominance,” Namboozo said after her win.

Namaganda has beaten her sibling on several occasions.

Namboozo, an S5 student at Manafwa High won the girls’ singles title. She also won the women’s team crown and women’s doubles.

Paris-based Migadde overcame last year’s winner Kevin Mafabi in a nail-biting men’s final 5-11 13-11 11-8 11-1.

“I started badly in the first set, but regained my focus. I have been training for the last couple of months for this tournament and it’s great to end this way,” Migadde said.

Migadde also won the men’s team event but lost out in the men’s doubles.

The international tournament, the biggest on the local calendar, was bankrolled by NSSF to a tune of sh35m. It attracted players from Kenya, Uganda, Ukraine and Germany.
