Kitende retain Wakiso crown
SOCCER-St. Mary’s SS Kitende beat Budo SS 1-0 to maintain the Wakiso district schools soccer championship for the sixth time on Sunday. Mohamed Latif netted the crucial shot off a free-kick heralding the five-time Copa Coca-Cola champions as the team to beat in the schools soccer showpiece due in Fort Portal this month. Despite the loss, Budo also qualified for the Copa Coca-Cola finals.

Kenya sends 15
MOTOR SPORT-Fifteen riders from Kenya have confirmed taking part in the opening round of 2009 East African Motocross Challenge at Shell Garuga Race track on Sunday. Local motor sport body (FMU) vice president technical, Arthur Blick Junior, disclosed this at a press conference at Quality Cuts Nsambya yesterday. “Fifteen riders from Kenya have so far confirmed and we expect a full team (Kenyan). We also expect five from DR Congo and Uganda is to field a full team of about 50,” he said.

NCS in denial
BOXING-NATIONAL Council of Sports (NCS) general secretary Jasper Aligaweesa yesterday declined to receive the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) files because he was not given prior notice. Aligawesa complained that he could not take over because, he said, it was just an ambush by UABF. NCS had agreed to take over the responsibility to manage boxing affairs following the resignation of UABF president Rogger Ddungu last month.
