THE Aya Investments executive chairman yesterday said the Kampala Hilton Hotel project was on course.
“We are making good progress. We have completed raising the structure. All the 20 floors are complete and we are going to embark on the finishing phase,†Hamid Mohammedan told The New Vision in an interview yesterday.
He said the project would not be affected by the legal dispute with their former lawyer, Muzaamiru Kibeedi.
The High Court recently dismissed an application by Kibeedi seeking payment of $2.4m for legal fees he rendered to Aya Investments.
The court gave Kibeedi two weeks to file a fresh suit, proving that the company owes him the money.
Mohammed said Kibeedi was their lawyer in a number of transactions, but they discontinued his services later, saying he was inefficient.
Mohammed added that they had won the case against Kibeedi and that he did not have sufficient grounds to demand the legal fees.
“Kibeedi is trying to waste our time. We do not owe him any money and we have the evidence that we paid him all his fees.â€
In 2006, the Government granted the Aya Group a 15-acre prime land in Nakasero to build a five-star hotel.
The project worth $100m is expected to be competed by the end of the year.
President Yoweri Museveni recently warned lawyers against charging excessive fees, saying this would discourage investors and lead to unemployment.
