SEVEN couples exchanged marriage vows during a mass wedding at Emmanuel Cathedral in Arua town on Saturday. The event, the first if its kind at the church, had 84-year-old Nason Iria saying “I do” to his 76-year-old wife, Kezia Angucia.

Excited by the enviable deed, Angucia thrilled the congregation when she jumped and lifted high their marriage certificate while Iria sat back smiling away.

Several members of the church rushed to hug the new couple with cheers reverberating across the 3,000 capacity church.

Also in the queue was John Ayile, a presenter with a local Christian-founded radio station, Voice of Life, and his wife, Betty Onyiru.

In a sermon, the Bishop of Madi and West Nile Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Joel Obetia, called upon the couples to keep their marriages pure by remaining faithful to their partners.

Obetia further challenged married men to identify with their wives in public just as the Biblical Abraham did.

The newly married couples later hosted their guests to a joint reception at Arua Demonstration School.
