UGANDAN rally drivers who have over the years dreaded the very high standards demanded by technical delegate Viren Goricha from Kenya, will be relieved to learn he will not feature in the KCB Pearl of Africa rally next week.

Goricha has been replaced by his son.

International motor sport governing body FIA technical delegate Goricha’s strict adherence to international standards, frustrated many drivers who were forced to upgrade their cars.

Despite this, there is still a bit of apprehension because it is Goricha’s son Sachin coming to inspect the Pearl rally cars.

It turns out that Goricha who was FIA technical director in the Rally of Tanzania in February and the KCB Safari rally in Kenya last month, asked to have a break.
Sachin Goricha was appointed by the FIA technical delegate for the Pearl rally.

Clerk of course Kisitu Mayanja said there was no longer reasons to worry about Ugandan cars being knocked out on technicalities.

“Ugandans have very good cars nowadays. I have looked at the entry list and I have no doubt our cars will pass the scrutineering test,” Mayanja said.

“They are mainly new cars but we have still asked our local technical delegate Joshua Mayanja to advise the drivers on other technicalities.”

The event that is the third round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) has 32 entrants from South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia Rwanda and Burundi.

Fans are expected to rally behind the main Africa Rally Championship campaigners Emma Katto, Jas Mangat and Alpha Rally Team’s Riyaz Kurji.
