Child deal lands man in mess GERMANY — Frank Maus, 34, was contracted by his neighbour Demetrius Soupolos, 29, to impregnate his wife for him recently after tests had confirmed he was sterile. Maus agreed to a $2,500 (sh5.25m) payment for three evenings a week. But after six months and 72 times, the stomach of Soupolos’ wife Traute remained flat. Maus refused to refund the money and was taken to court. Maus was ordered to take tests which found him sterile. His wife was forced to reveal the father of their two children. Court will decide on whether he should refund next week.
Priests jailed for stealing US — Two disgraced Roman Catholic priests have been sentenced to prison in a case involving the misappropriation of more than $8m (sh16b) from their church to lavish their girlfriends. Fr John Skehan, 81, and Fr Francis Guinan, 66, were accused in 2006 of skimming money from collection plates and donations at their church in Florida to spend on real estate and travel for their women. They pleaded guilty. Skehan invested in rare coins, owned a cottage and a pub in Ireland, a $455,000 (sh910m) penthouse condominium in Florida and an apartment in Delray Beach.
Landlord stuck with apartment UK — A landlord has been told he must evict his tenants because they are not nuns. The unnamed man bought the former convent and converted it into 15 apartments. However, the council zoning only allows it to be used for religious purposes. Council officials have told him he had no permission to change its use.He said: “The council should have examined who allowed the building to be converted, rather than arguing about its use.â€
