SOCCER governing body FUFA has named Asuman Lubowa acting technical director. He has in turn relinquished his position as the federation’s vice-president in charge of technical matters.

The appointment comes just days after FIFA development officer in charge of Africa Ashford Mamelodi warned that Uganda would not get financial sssistance without a technical director.

Lubowa replaces Edgar Watson who was last month appointed chief executive officer.

Federation president Lawrence Mulindwa announced Lubowa’s appointment at the FUFA PostBank press conference at Mengo yesterday. Mulindwa also named FUFA Zone 3 chairman Patrick Ogwel to replace Lubowa as vice president technical.

He said that Lubowa was chosen ahead of Paul Ssali because he was the second to Watson during a test organised by the world soccer body FIFA for the post last year.

He said that Lubowa would work with national team coach Robert Williamson to draw development plans for the national teams.

“We have strengthened the (technical) department. I have already met them and told them to work as a unit. I don’t want to see Lubowa work in isolation,” Mulindwa said.

When contacted, Lubowa said he was ready for the job and does not expect any tasks he cannot handle.
