THE main cause of decay is not the amount of sugar in the diet, but how often it is eaten or drunk.

Try to restrict, sweet, sugary food and drinks to meal times and discourage snacking unless it is on fruits and vegetables.

Once teeth begin erupting, brushing twice a day with a children’s fluoride toothpaste — after breakfast and before bed — will prevent tooth decay.
