BUKEDDE TV, a station owned by The New Vision company, will start telecasting in July.

The company chief executive officer, Robert Kabushenga, yesterday announced that equipment for the station would be here soon.

It will predominantly broadcast in Luganda.

“It will cater for the audience that has not been catered for by the existing stations in a systematic and consistent way, providing entertainment and information. The station is for the category that cannot afford subscription for pay-TV,” Kabushenga said.

Bukedde newspaper readers and Bukedde FM radio listeners are among the target group.

However, other local languages spoken in the 100km radius to be covered by the TV would be used in addition to English.

“It should be fully operational by July,” Kabushenga stated, adding that 80% of the programmes would offer entertainment.

Advertisers, he explained, would have an opportunity to display their items during “block hours” at reasonable rates.

According to Kabushenga, a similar concept has been successfully applied in South Africa and Kenya.

Local content like films and documentaries will be prominent to enable “the industry to pickup”. There will also be segments to teach people about culture.

All news bulletins on the station are to be read in Luganda, he said.

Viewers should expect presenters like former Big Brother Africa participant, Gaetano Kaggwa, who joined the Vision Group recently as a presenter on Vision Voice FM radio.

Auditions will be carried out soon to select people who want to work on the TV station.

The Vision Group sales and marketing manager, Tony Glencross, said the development would enable advertisers reach their audience using three forms of media; Bukedde TV, Bukedde radio and Bukedde newspaper.
