All senior officers of the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters, except spokesman Fred Enanga, have been transferred in a major shake-up.

All senior officers of the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters, except spokesman Fred Enanga, have been transferred in a major shake-up.
Twenty-one officers will move from the CID directorate to handle general duties under a reshuffle ordered by Police chief Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura. Over all, 48 officers are affected across investigations directorates The transfers took immediate effect and the chiefs are now awaiting redeployment, assistant Inspector General of Police Richard Bisherurwa said in a statement.
The shake-up was the fourth this year in what the authorities described as a restructuring of senior Police officers.
Last weekend, Kayihura named new chiefs for Kampala in a mini-reshuffle.
Under the latest CID changes, five assistant commissioners of Police, six senior superintendents, seven superintendents and three assistant superintendents of Police are to leave the headquarters.
Accordingly, the commissioner of Police in-charge of media offences, Charles Kataratambi, is the new head of the land protection unit. Simon Kutesa of the land title fraud will take charge of media offences, Bisherurwa said.
The homicide department will be headed by Hilary Odoch from the Economic Crimes, while his predecessor, Tumuhimbise Kato, now heads the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Kayihura recently named Andrew Sorowen Kampala Metropolitan Police commander. Sorowen had been the commander for south-western region.
Willy Katotyo of the anti-corruption unit replaces Odoch as the economic crimes chief.
Geoffrey Musana, the former Kampala Metropolitan head, takes over crime analysis.
The crime data management chief, Charles Asaba, moves to the information communications directorate. Grace Akullo moves from Old Kampala to the CID headquarters to head the narcotics desk. Fred Eriku from Pallisa replaces Akullo.
Addressing journalists in Kampala yesterday, Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said the transfers were aimed at improving the efficiency of the CID.
Nabakooba also disclosed that more CID officers were undergoing training to beef up the staff in the directorate.
“We want to see that the cases are handled in time unlike before,†she said. “The system has been so slow in investigating.â€
