EDITOR—The Government should know that our population is increasing at an uncontrollable rate. While the Government advocates environment conservation, the price of electricity is soaring and it is only the middle and upper classes that can afford to use electricity for domestic use.

The next privileged class of people who are the majority can only use it for lighting.

This has created a big market for charcoal burners and traders. A bag in Kampala now costs sh30,000 making the business very lucrative. At that rate, is our environment safe? The MPs defended Mabira forest against encroachers and that was great.
but without concrete measures in place, this problem must be debated in Parliament. The Government should ensure the price of power comes down otherwise Uganda will lose the conservation war to encroachers.

This will both kill the tourism industry and the environment, not to mention the livelihood of most Ugandans. This needs urgent attention.
