Man gets 15 years in jail for defilement

THE High Court in Luweero district has sentenced a 29-year-old man to 15 years imprisonment for defiling a seven-year-old girl.

THE High Court in Luweero district has sentenced a 29-year-old man to 15 years imprisonment for defiling a seven-year-old girl.
Robert Mulambuzi, a resident of Kibiriizi village in Bamunanika county, was sentenced after pleading guilty to the offence on Wednesday.
Prosecution told court that on May 8, 2007, Mulambuzi got the girl from her grandmother’s bed where she was sleeping and took her to a banana plantation, where he defiled her.
Her grandmother had gone to a wedding.
Court heard that at the time Mulambuzi was arrested, his penis had blood stains on it.
Mulambuzi said he was sorry for what he had done and promised not to do it again.
His lawyer, Sowali Katamba, asked for leniency, saying his client was a first-time offender and was remorseful.
He added that Mulambuzi had not wasted court’s time and resources by pleading guilty.
Passing his judgement, Judge Benjamin Kabiito said the victim suffered shock, fear, and injuries. He added that society had to be protected from people like Mulambuzi.
