How many times must one defile?

EDITOR—I refer to your article of May 19, entitled, “Defiler sentenced to 17 years in jailâ€. The convict defiled a six-year-old girl.
Defilement attracts a maximum punishment of death but because “it was the first offence he committed†he was given 17 years. I have a couple of questions:
- Did the judge and the defence lawyer think about the effect the defilement has caused the young girl?
- How many times must one defile before getting a maximum sentence?
I don’t believe in the death sentence but why not life imprisonment or at least 50 years in jail? There is a big loophole in the judicial system. The defence lawyer, Isaac Okai, appeared to be more sympathetic with the defiler than with the victim!
ldoes he have children?
- Where are the so-called human rights activists or isn’t this young girl a human being?
